This week was the first full week of school, it consisted of just a German language class and a class of the EU. It was a great mix of class time and activities providing more time to explore the city. We also took our first day trip to the Alsace region of France to learn about Franco-German history.

Hard to pick a favorite moment from the week but I think it goes to this lovely bench moment where after picking up some lavender from the Münster Market I enjoyed a coffee, soaked up some UV rays, and admired the Schwabentor. Fun fact there are two gates in the city center, Schwabentor and Martinstor which have been preserved since medieval times. We love history!

This is the lake right next to my dorm and got a great view from this wooden tower. I was shocked there was nobody playing soccer on the field because people are ALWAYS playing soccer here.

Random List of Things I learned this week(no theme whatsoever)

  1. I get charged 20 cents for a to-go cup here! Freiburg is known as the greenest city in Germany and it is very apparent.

  2. I joined a gym which is forcing me to actually learn the metric system. Probably a good skill to have.

  3. On a completely different note, in class I learned they are still finding unexploded bombs from WWII around Germany and there is a whole process and usually evacuations as they detonate them. I literally had no idea.

Weekend Day Trip!

Basel, Switzerland

The River Rhein

On Saturday my friends and I took a train from Freiburg to Basel. It was so easy, only a little less than an hour to arrive in yet another lovely European city with amazing architecture, churches, markets, etc. Yes, I did purchase my first swiss army knife ever and it comes with a fork and spoon too, literally genius. Don't laugh but my favorite part about the city was actually the public, FREE, self-cleaning restrooms. We felt like we were walking into an elevator. We love prioritizing public health.

There was definitely a lot more that happened this week but I am too lazy to write more.

Thanks for reading! Bye bye!
